Cajun Document: Not the Last Word!
In 1973 and ‘74, two Chicago photographers traveled to Louisiana to document the region known as Acadiana and its coastal outposts to the east. Douglas Baz and Charles H. Traub spent more than six months visiting towns from Welsh to Erath, Mamou to Golden Meadow, capturing everyday life in living rooms and dance halls, on fishing boats, and at rural Mardi Gras festivities, as well as a sweeping view of the region’s industries and geography. For the first time, The Historic New Orleans Collection gathered these photographs into a comprehensive exhibit, Cajun Document. Please join the photographers and John H. Lawrence, exhibition curator, for a presentation and conversation about this body of work before the exhibit closes to the public on January 17th. The large-format companion book, Cajun Document: Acadiana, 1973-74, is available for purchase online and in THNOC Gift Shop.
